British transgender couple hold first awesome rainbow-themed wedding in the Philippines
A British transgender woman and her partner held an awesome rainbow-themed wedding in the Philippines.
Footage shows the bride Jazzie Tiro walking down the aisle decorated with white roses as rainbow-coloured spotlights beamed across the room in Cebu province on July 5.
Jazzie, who lives in London, England, said it was a recreation of the civil wedding she and her husband Mac Balbuena did at the British Embassy in Manila a few days before.
They both originate from the Southeast Asian archipelago, where Jazzie was born a man and now lives as a woman as a UK citizen while Mac was born a man and is still a man.
The video shows the event, which the couple laid on following the British Embassy ceremony, so they could share the special day with close families and friends.
Jazzie, a radiologist, said: ‘I was actually overwhelmed because at first, I was hesitant. I knew that we will be the first.
‘My friends told me that I can inspire a lot of people. I was hesitant, but now I see the impact of it all.'
As same-sex unions are not recognised by the current Philippines laws, Jazzie said she and husband Mac hope it could change for couples like them.
She said: ‘I hope that transgender marriage will finally be legal in the Philippines.'
Their wedding coordinator Carlo Abaquita said it was one of the most unique events he had handled.
He said: ‘Love is indeed universal.'
The Philippines is a largely Catholic country due to the spread of the religion by Spanish settlers in the 16th centrury. While officially a secular state, religion still plats a significant role in its political affairs.
