A Bryde's whale carcass was found floating off the coast of a Thai island on Thursday.

The Marine and Coastal Resources Administration Office 2 was alerted to the discovery of the dead marine animal drifting three nautical miles from Koh Larn in Chonburi province at around 11 am on July 20.

Officers said the whale measured around 33 feet long and was bloated from decay.

The corpse was taken back to Koh Larn island, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to find the cause of death.

Bryde's whales are part of the baleen whale family, and are considered among the 'great whales' which include blue whales and humpback whales.

They are named after Johan Bryde, a Norwegian whaler who built whaling stations in South Africa.

Bryde's whales live in temperate oceans like the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian.
