This is the heartwarming moment an endangered giraffe calf climbed to its feet when it was delivered at the world's oldest zoo.

The calf was dropped onto the ground from a height of nearly two meters from its mother following the labor at the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria, on Wednesday, July 12.

But the animal staggered up and made its first steps just moments later. The calf is the second offspring of its mother, who previously gave birth to a female a year and a half ago.

Zookeepers have so far separated the newborn and its mother from the rest of the group, to simulate a wild environment where bearing giraffes isolate themselves from the rest of the herd. The zoo said that if everything goes according to plan, the other group members will get to know the calf over the next few days.

The birth of this calf is an important contribution to the European conservation breeding of the endangered reticulated giraffe. The species is listed as 'endangered' on IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species. There are approximately 8,500 individuals living in the wild.

This is a heartwarming story of a new life being brought into the world, and it is a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts for endangered species.
