A fisherman was rescued after his boat overturned amid extreme weather conditions in Padang, Indonesia, yesterday (July 23).

The man was stranded in the sea for about an hour before the National Search and Rescue Agency rushed to the site. The sizable waves posed a significant challenge for the rescuers.

In a heartwarming display of courage and unity, residents fearlessly dove into the sea, swimming with surfboards and inflatable devices, all in a determined effort to rescue the stranded fisherman.

A gathering of curious tourists eagerly assembled at the site to witness the rescue mission.

People cheered as the man was safely rescued and carried to the beach. He was swiftly transported to the nearest hospital and promptly admitted to the intensive care unit.

58-year-old Syahril Hakim, a resident of Purus Pantai Padang said:

"The man was hit by a high wave which propelled him along for 100 meters away from the initial incident location".

The victim was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for intensive care by the medical team.

Previously during the day the city of Padang was hit by extreme weather, strong winds and rain accompanied by large sea waves. As a result of strong winds, several areas of the city of Padang experienced fallen trees.

"The victim was about to return to sea when he wanted to end up on the upside, due to strong winds and was hit by a high wave. The victim was dragged by the waves 100 meters from the scene of the incident," he said.

The victim in the boat was alone when he was going back to sea, the weather was also quite extreme this afternoon, the wind was strong so the victim capsized.

"The victim was successfully evacuated by residents using rubber tires and surf boards in the middle of the sea, so the victim was successfully evacuated safely and rushed to the nearest hospital," he said.
