A huge container ship sank close to Taiwan's largest port on Friday.

The Palau-flagged ship Angel started taking on water on Thursday before finally sinking on July 21 near Kaohsiung port.

An estimated 600 empty containers of the total 1,349 containers on the Angel are adrift off the southern coast of Taiwan.

Ten salvage vessels had been dispatched to retrieve the containers. As of July 22, a total of 34 containers were brought back.

Nineteen crew members were evacuated on Thursday after the captain issued an abandoned ship order.

One crew member had minor injuries and had already been delivered to the hospital.
