A holidaymaker was shocked to see Brits sprinting "like on Supermarket Sweep" for sunbeds - after queuing since 7am for the pool to open."

The tourist - on a trip to Corralejo, Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands - was stunned by fellow guests' commitment to tanning.

While staying at Riu Oliva Beach Resort, between June 10 and June 18 this year, they spotted chaotic scenes unfold.

In classic Brit holidaymaker fashion, the second the pool opened at 8am, guests flooded to claim the best sunbeds.

The onlooker said many had begun queuing ready to run from as early as 7.10am each morning.

They said: "It was like it every morning - some more manic than that video too."

"People didn’t seem to get aggressive, but as soon as the barrier opened they ran, like they were on Supermarket Sweep."

"The thing is, there was 11km of open beach right next to the hotel and there were still plenty of beds when we went down at 10am."

"So, there was no need to rush - I just thought 'how stupid can you be?'"

"I was never one of those people, so I just found it very amusing."
