Locals braved heavy floods as they crossed a river swollen due to super typhoon Doksuri in the Philippines.

Footage shows residents walking on the waterlogged temporary access road on the Paliwan River in Laua-an Town, Antique province, on July 24 afternoon.

Pedestrians held onto ropes as local officials assisted them across the cascading floods, while several motorcycle riders were seen battling through the water.

The Laua-an disaster office said the road has been closed to vehicles.

Philippine weather agency PAGASA said Typhoon Doksuri had been bringing scattered rainstorms while enhancing the southwest monsoon but it intensified overnight into a super typhoon.

The state weather bureau said in an 8 am update today: 'A short window of high favorable environment in the near term will allow Egay to either maintain its intensity in the next 12 hours or slightly intensify.'

Forecasters said the super typhoon could touch down in the Cagayan province area on the northern island of Luzon between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.
