Super typhoon Doksuri churned up waves as it approached northern Philippines this morning.

Footage shows tall waves smashing into the coast of Cagayan province amid overcast skies on Tuesday July 25 morning.

Philippine weather agency PAGASA said Typhoon Doksuri had been bringing scattered rainstorms while enhancing the southwest monsoon but it intensified overnight into a super typhoon.

The state weather bureau said in an 8 am update today: 'A short window of high favorable environment in the near term will allow Egay to either maintain its intensity in the next 12 hours or slightly intensify.'

Forecasters said the super typhoon could touch down in the Cagayan province area on the northern island of Luzon between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.
