Gecko's tail falls off but still moves around

Buy video

A bizarre video has emerged from Almeria, Spain of a gecko's tail squirming around on the ground five minutes after it was shed by the lizard.

According to the filmer, he was doing some gardening and, without realising it, picked up a rock to which the lizard was clinging. The reptile immediately shed its tail which dropped the ground.

The filmer managed to catch the lizard and relocate it to a nearby wall where it seemed fine, although minus part of its tail.

A few minutes later when the filmer went back to the spot where the tail fell off, he was amazed to find it still writhing around on the ground.
