A quick-thinking driver steered away from a falling electricity post that collapsed when it was hit by an out-of-control pickup truck during a storm.

Dashcam footage shows the motorists swerving to the edge of the left lane as the 25ft-tall pole plunged onto the road amid heavy rain in Phuket, Thailand on July 15.

The terrified driver and passenger shouted as they slammed the brakes, and a sedan in front crashed onto a traffic barrier. Meanwhile, the pickup truck that spun out of control flipped and drifted before coming to a halt.

Motorist Chonnapaa said she was relieved to walk away from the accident unhurt.

She said: 'I was on my way to a dog shelter when the accident happened because of the rain. It's a miracle that nobody was injured.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

The downpours lead to treacherous conditions on the country's roads.
