A massive monitor lizard was caught on a terrified family's porch in Thailand.

Footage shows the 5ft-long reptile sitting on the corner of the house in Bangkok on July 14.

It somehow made its way by the door and was lashing out its tail before animal rescuers arrived to evacuate it.

At least five volunteers helped to secure it with long catching poles before it was pinned to the ground and taken for release.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
