A quick-thinking 9-year-old girl saved a boy who got his foot trapped in an escalator in a shopping mall in central China.

The video was filmed in Wuhan City in Hubei Province on July 19.

The girl ran down to the bottom of an escalator and immediately hit the emergency stop button as a boy got his right foot stuck in the escalator.

Upon receiving the alarm, the Wuhan Fire and Rescue Command Centre promptly dispatched a fire truck and six firefighters from the Yong'an Avenue Fire Rescue Station to handle the situation.

Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters found the boy's right ankle stuck in the gap on the side of the escalator. After assessing the situation, they decided to first cut the boy's shoe open with a small knife and scissors.

They then attempted to use hydraulic cutters to pry open the side of the escalator to create a rescue space and free the boy's foot. However, the escalator's side panel was too sturdy, limiting the expansion of the space and the boy's foot could not be successfully removed.

Subsequently, escalator maintenance workers rushed to the scene and dismantled its side panel. Meanwhile, the firefighters tried to keep the boy calm and used a crowbar to widen the gap in the escalator.

After nearly ten minutes of tense rescue operations, the boy was successfully freed. His family quickly took him to the hospital for a detailed examination.

According to the boy's mother, four children were riding the escalator that afternoon, intending to go downstairs to buy groceries. Unfortunately, the boy's right foot got caught in the escalator during the descent. One of the companions, a 9-year-old girl, had the presence of mind to rush to the bottom of the escalator and press the emergency stop button, while also shouting for help.

Upon hearing the calls for help, the shopping centre staff rushed to the scene and alerted the emergency services. Fortunately, the escalator was stopped immediately, and the rescue team was on the scene in time, the boy's right foot was only superficially swollen.

After examination at the hospital, it was confirmed that there was no serious damage.
