A heroic bus driver caught a 1-year-old toddler accidentally falling from an approximately 10 metres high second floor of a building in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province on July 25.

The child's father, Mr Wang, recalled receiving a phone call from the landlord that morning around 9:00 am, stating that his child had fallen from the building.

"Upon hearing this, my vision blackened from fear. I immediately drove to the hospital, holding my breath the entire way. It was only upon seeing my child safe that I could finally breathe a sigh of relief," Wang told reporters. Upon examination, it was found that the child was generally unharmed except for a minor abrasion on his thigh.

When asked about how the incident occurred, Wang blamed himself. "Our home is on the second floor, with a large terrace outside accessible directly from the bedroom window," he explained. On July 23, after cleaning the terrace, he merely covered the window's iron door without locking it.

The next morning, while Wang's mother went downstairs to buy medicine, thinking that the child, who usually sleeps until 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning, would continue to sleep, the toddler woke up.

Finding no one at home, the child wandered into his parents' bedroom and made his way onto the terrace, resulting in the chilling scene captured on video.

The bus driver who caught the child, Wang Jing, is also a father of two. Seeing the little boy on the edge of the third floor, he said he couldn't help but think about what he would do if his own child was in such a situation.

Moved by a father's instinct, he didn't hesitate and rushed forward. Wang Jing said he suffered only a minor arm injury in the process.

Currently, the child, Chen Chen, is in good spirits. The father expressed his family's profound gratitude to the bus driver and the other good Samaritans, whose names he still doesn't know.

"Without these kind-hearted people, our family's world would have collapsed," he said. "They didn't just save Chen Chen; they saved our entire family," Wang said.
