In Morella, Spain, on July 22, 2023, a distressing incident occurred during the "bou embolat" festival, where a bull with its horns on fire charged into a wooden obstacle and landed on its back, visibly dazed and struggling. The upsetting scenes were captured on video, showing a group of men securing the terrified bull with a rope before attaching flammable material to its horns and igniting it.

As the confused and frightened animal ran around with flames billowing from its horns, it collided with a wooden structure, causing it to collapse on its back. Despite the bull's obvious distress, some individuals continued to goad it for entertainment. Meanwhile, others attempted to prevent the recording of the event, harassing those trying to document the cruel treatment of the animal.

Animal rights organization AnimaNaturalis reported that during the event, activists trying to document the cruelty were targeted, and tensions escalated when the bull encountered difficulties after having flaming balls attached to its horns. The video shows that the bull was in distress, stumbling and falling repeatedly, while the organizers and some attendees tried to prevent further documentation of the incident.

The health and well-being of the bull were not publicly addressed, and there was no expression of regret for the dramatic and concerning incident. The organization further noted that a similar situation occurred minutes later when another bull charged into a tangle of ropes left in the arena, further endangering its well-being. The incident highlights the distressing treatment of animals in such festivals and raises concerns about the safety and well-being of both the animals involved and those attempting to document and raise awareness about the events.
