Two climate terrorists spray daubed the words 'the people are mightier than a lord' on a portrait of King Charles in a bid to fight oil exploitation in Scotland.

The eco-zealots, members of the 'This is Rigged' organisation, vandalised the painting by Victoria Crowe inside the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, on July 26, amid an ongoing protest against the country's fossil fuel industry.

Cat, a member of the group behind the crime, said: 'The King is receiving a 45 per cent pay increase in two years, while most people struggle through a cost of living crisis.

'Meanwhile, the world is on fire, with wildfires raging in Algeria, Turkey, Rhodes and Italy, and even Cannich, in the Scottish Highlands for ten days last month.

'Scotland is facing an unprecedented shortage of water, and this is likely the least extreme summer of the rest of our lives.'

The organisation claims the current climate crises are a result of 'crimes committed by those in power'.

The Scottish organisation claims their country's government has met with representatives of large oil corporations and accused its officials of failing to oppose their exploitation of fossil fuel.

The campaigners are demanding that the Government deny companies new oil and gas licences, and create a fair and fully funded transition for oil workers.
