A determined diver helped rescue a shark that had been hooked on an artificial reef for two days.

Tazz Felde received a call from his wife on July 24 to say she had been alerted to a nurse shark that had become stuck near Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA.

Heartwarming footage shows the 52-year-old work tirelessly to try and remove the hook as the endangered animal thrashed around in the sand.

After two minutes of working, Tazz finally managed to release fishing line from around the reef allowing the nurse shark to swim away.

Tazz said: “The ability to help an animal like this just feels really good knowing that you did your part to help another living being go about its day and live on for many years.

“No feeling describes it I actually get chills whenever I talk about it.

“I would have to say this was my first real shark rescue I have grabbed hooks from sharks mouths before but nothing they require this amount of coordination.

“There were no visible injuries on the shark other than that giant hook going through its mouth.

“I received a call from my wife who is a boat captain and she said that she got a report from a diver that basically described a shark that was tethered to an artificial reef.

"As far as I know the shark had been there for at least two days before I got there. It had a large shark fishing hook in its mouth and it was attached to a steel leader.

“Most likely fishermen hooked the shark, which had then wrapped itself around that reef making it unable to pull in.

“So they cut it loose but in the process it got tethered to that reef and was unable to move.”
