This is the amusing moment a wild bear cooled off in a resident's pool amid a scorching heat wave in California.

Footage shows the animal taking a refreshing dip in the water in a hillside neighbourhood in Burbank City on July 28.

Burbank Police Department officers, along with staff from the Burbank Animal Shelter and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, arrived to find the bear, unfazed by police presence, relaxing with its arm draped over the edge of the pool.

It later stood up and clambered up a tree near the house before falling asleep in the shade, officers said.

Local media reporter California had been grappling with temperatures reaching up to 92 degrees Fahrenheit last week.
