Anti sexism boards in Paris suburb: In Saint-Denis, one of the poorest town in France, women archaeologists are victims of sexist remarks and harassment from passers-by, while working on an excavation site. The outrages would concern the clothing of the researchers.
Men who take "dozens of photos"
At the foot of the basilica, kneeling in the earth, women archaeologists are busy on the site in full view, but protected by several police patrols. "The municipal police have been asked to increase the frequency of the passage of their teams in the streets bordering the site", explains a policeman.
The board is reading (from french):
"Adopt the right behavior.
We ask you to respect the work of the women archaeologists who work every day on this excavation site.
We remind you that any lack of respect towards them will be subject to denunciation and prosecution as provided by law."
In french:
"Adoptez le bon comportement.
Nous vous demandons de respecter le travail des femmes archéologues qui travaillent chaque jour sur ce chantier de fouille.
Nous vous rappelons que tout manque de respect à leur égard fera l'objet d'une dénonciation et de poursuite comme le prévoit la loi".
