Footage shows seven fishermen being rescued by coast guards when their boat capsized amid Typhoon Doksuri in the Philippines.

The villagers had set out on the Fbca Aneerie to fish off the coast of Iloilo province on July 23, but were forced to take shelter on Jintutulo island in neighbouring Masbate province due to monsoon rains enhanced by the typhoon.

Thinking the weather had improved, the fishermen set sail once again on July 28 - only to be battered by strong wind and waves at sea.

The boat's outrigger and bow were damaged and it sank off Gigantes island in Iloilo province.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station Estancia were called to evacuate the stranded fishermen.

Footage shows the villagers standing on the half-submerged vessel while the rescue crew prepared to evacuate them.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said in a statement: 'According to reports, Mr. Roldan Maghanoy, the owner and operator of the distressed Fbca Aneerie, reported to Coast Guard Sub-Station Estancia around 2 pm of July 28, 2023 that his fishing boat with seven crew members onboard including the boat captain was half-submerged at vicinity waters between Jintutulo Island, Masbate and Gigantes Island, Carles, Iloilo.

'Immediately, CGSS Estancia and Carles dispatched their respective Deployable Response Team (DRT) onboard rescue Mbca Raj Warrior to conduct joint search and rescue operation together with the owner of the distressed fishing boat and volunteer fisherfolk.'

The PCG said all seven fishermen were brought back to shore unharmed while the boat was towed back to port in Estancia town.

It added the anglers may face investigations for setting sail despite a gale warning, and for not having life jackets onboard.
