Turkish Military Underwater Defense (SAS) teams found at least 28 items of ammunition off the coast of Istanbul, the governor's office said in a statement on Monday.
The Black Sea coast of the Sofular village in the far northern part of Istanbul had been evacuated for safety reasons after a swimmer saw suspicious objects in the sea on Sunday, the daily Dunya reported.
Eight of the discovered items were put ashore by the teams with the approval of the local prosecutor.
The teams continue their search in the area, and the detected ammunition will be destructed on Aug. 2 after necessary safety measures are taken, the governor's office said.
