Generous pensioner, 84, floats basin across canal to share homecooked meals with her neighbour
A generous pensioner regularly floats a basin across a flooded canal to share her homecooked meals with her neighbour in Thailand.
Footage shows Kamnueng Kongsuwan, 84, ferrying the food across the water using a large basin as a makeshift tray.
Her neighbour, vendor Kanjana Eupatayakorn, 45, then retrieves the meals by bending over the edge of her canal home's wooden platform in Ratchaburi province to reach for the container.
Kanchana, who moved to Ratchaburi after marrying her husband, said she has known the octagenarian for four years and had become good friends with her.
She said: 'Kamnueng is always smiling, friendly, and generous. She often shares food and desserts with me even though we aren't family
'I feel bad asking food from her when the restaurants are closed. But she has never turned me down and will give me food without hesitation. I'm incredibly grateful to her, so I try to always talk to her to keep her from becoming lonely.'
To repay for the pensioner's generosity, Kanchana said she looks after the elderly lady whenever she does chores alone at her home.
Meanwhile, spinster Kamnueng said she frequently cooks too much food for one person, so she shares the rest with her friends and neighbours. She added local vendors would often visit her to request some of her dishes.
She said: 'Showing generosity and kindness to others, even if they are not family members, is something that everyone should do.
'It's not much, but I think these small interactions with others make everyone happy and also prevent me from feeling lonely.
'The thing that made me feel the happiest was during the Songkran Festival, when visiting vendors gave me flower garlands and scented water.
'They poured the perfume over my hands and asked for my blessings to show their deep gratitude. Such things are difficult to find nowadays.'
