Firefighters rescued two passengers trapped in an overturned car that plunged into a 15ft ditch in Citronelle, Alabama.

The car was driving along Celeste Road when it veered down the embankment and crashed, pinning a man and a woman inside the vehicle on July 24.

Dramatic bodycam footage shows Citronelle Fire and Rescue officers using chainsaws to clear the brush away from the flipped car. Once the branches were removed, they used spreaders, cutters, and winches to reach the passengers.

Both were safely rescued from the wreckage after 45 minutes, and were sent to a hospital for minor injuries.

The accident had left their car crushed with the windscreen destroyed.

Captain Chazz Stringer of the Citronelle Fire and Rescue said the pair had been trying to call for help before the rescue crew arrived.

He said: 'They had seen multiple vehicles passed by and no one had stopped. They were honking the horn. The only information that we had was two people were trapped inside and it was extremely dark.'

He added: 'Be cautious of your surroundings. Watch out for other vehicles. If you're not in a fit and able condition, do not be on the road driving.'

Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash.
