A huge snake was caught on CCTV slithering into a family's home.

Footage shows the 6ft-long rat snake entering through the gaps in the metal dog gate installed on the front door in Sukhothai province, Thailand, on July 4.

The serpent tried to hide behind the shoe rack but was caught when the pet pooches alerted their owner.

The creature was later snared by neighbours who secured it with a stick and placed it in a bag before being turned over to wildlife officers.

Thailand is home to more than 200 species of snakes, including venomous and non-venomous serpents. Some of the most common snakes in Thailand include cobras, rat snakes, and pythons.
