Three arrested on suspicion of murder after cyclist on e-bike is killed in hit-and-run

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a cyclist on an e-bike was killed in a hit-and-run.

The 22-year-old man was left with catastrophic injuries after being ploughed into by a white Seat Leon as he rode an electric bike in Sheldon, Birmingham.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the junction with Moat Lane and Vera Road at 11.55pm last night (Tue) but nothing could be done to save the victim.

Police said the vehicle involved left the area and has not yet been traced.

Three men, aged 17, 19 and 20, were arrested at an address in Yardley, Birmingham, this morning (Wed) on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

West Midlands Police said the man's family is currently being supported by family liaison officers and urged anyone with information to get in touch.

A force spokesperson said: "We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Moat Lane, Coventry Road and Vera Road areas just before, or after, the collision. "

"We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone with dash cam footage."

"The area is currently cordoned off while inquiries continue."

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene at at 12.08am today (Wed).

A service spokesman said: "Crews were informed that a man on an electric bike and a vehicle had been involved in a collision."

"The cyclist was in a critical condition and was receiving basic life support from police colleagues. "

"Ambulance crews immediately took over and began administering advanced life support."

"Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became clear that the man couldn’t be saved and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
