Terrifying moment electricity posts collapse on drivers in Manila
This is the terrifying moment electricity posts collapsed onto drivers injuring three people in the Philippines this morning.
CCTV footage shows a concrete pole on the streetside toppling overs as motorists hit their brakes to avoid the falling power cables in Binondo - the world's oldest Chinatown - in the capital Manila on Thursday, August 3.
Officials said that eight electric posts subsided and injured three people who were rushed to the hospital.
Electricity in the area was temporarily cut for safety while authorities investigated the cause.
The Manila Public Information Office said in a statement: ‘Acting Mayor Yul Servo Nieto currently inspects the accident site at Binondo, where at least seven electrical posts fell around 1 PM today, August 3.
‘As of this writing, three victims were reported to have minor injuries and are currently in the hospital.'
The posts also damaged parked cars on the side of the busy intersection. Police cordoned off the area to motorists during the investigation.
Binondo is the world's oldest Chinatown, established more than 400 years ago when Chinese-Catholic immigrants settled in the then-Spanish colony in 1594.
