A woman spent over 40 hours hand stitching hundreds of sequins onto a leotard to wear to a Taylor Swift concert - and now wears it on nights out, to the shops and while cleaning the house.

Madeline Small, 23, spent four months planning, tailoring and bejewelling the bodysuit in preparation for the Eras Tour in Detroit, Michigan, US, on June 10.

As a "curvy girl" with a scoliosis scar - who has struggled with low confidence in the past - Madeline wondered what people’s reactions would be. "

But she left the concert feeling uplifted and empowered and continues to receive compliments on her costume.

Madeline, a marketer, from Michigan, US, said: "I fell in love with Taylor’s custom Versace bodysuit. I wanted to recreate the costume and it took me four months."

"Taylor has been a big part of my life since I was six years old - so I thought this corset would be a great way to pay homage to her."

"I spent one month planning and sourcing the materials - and three months tailoring it." "

Madeline has been crocheting and sewing for as long as she can remember.

When she was little, she loved to design her own costumes - so she knew she wanted to wear something "crazy" to the concert. "

She was taught to sew by her grandma, Ellin, who was her biggest supporter and bought her "boxes and boxes" of material to crochet. "

Ellin died on March 22, just before Taylor embarked on the Eras Tour.

But Madeline wanted to turn her grief into a positive thing.

She said: "Right before Taylor did her shows, my grandma passed away."

"Rather than wallow, I transformed it into a positive experience of grief. "

"So I immediately started sketching patterns. "

"All these different angles, it took so long."

Sourcing her materials from sites like Etsy, AliExpress and Amazon, Madeline ended up spending £200 on the costume.

She stitched hundreds of sequins to the bodysuit by hand - and now has a "surplus of sequins I don’t know what to do with". "

As well as recreating Taylor’s costume from the ‘Lover’ section of her tour, Madeline specifically wanted to highlight her scoliosis surgery scar - which runs all down her back - by rhinestoning it.

She said: "I do have scoliosis - I had two surgeries for that in May and June 2014. It’s hindered my confidence in the past. "

"But I want to keep on feeling glam with my condition."

Before her spinal fusion, Madeline’s spine was at a 100-degree angle - and her scoliosis was considered severe.

"It’s something that affects your body in a very visible way," she said. "

"I don’t want to hide my scar - I wanted it to become part of the costume."

"It was very empowering. It was fun to embrace that part of me. "

"It felt very special to be in such a female-dominated space like the Eras Tour."

"It was great to have women uplifting each other and complimenting each other."

Even though her show is over - Madeline still shows off the bodysuit as much as she can.

She likes to wear it on nights out and to run errands in - along with her custom-made ‘leather’ corset created for Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour.

"I find a lot of joy in trying to recreate something that a normal person would never be able to wear," she said."

"But now that I own these things, I’m like ‘yeah, I may as well wear it to Target, do some laundry in it.'"

"I get a lot of compliments but sometimes people stare."

"People often ask me where I got it from and where they can get one for themselves."
