Woman and baby narrowly escape being hit by collapsing termite-infested tree in China
A roadside tree abruptly fell, scraping a passing cyclist and narrowly missing a woman holding a baby in southern China.
The terrifying video was filmed in the city of Quanzhou in Fujian Province on July 27.
Eyewitness Ms Wu described the frightening scene, revealing that the road maintenance staff, who were fortuitously trimming branches nearby, rushed over immediately to assess the situation. The injured cyclist was swiftly taken to the hospital for examination, avoiding what could have been a disaster.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the tree's roots had been hollowed out by termites, a hidden peril that led to the tree's sudden collapse. Miraculously, nobody was seriously harmed in the incident.
Local authorities are now investigating, and there will likely be calls for increased vigilance regarding tree maintenance and inspections to prevent such terrifying incidents from occurring in the future.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
