A wild monitor lizard wandered inside a family's garage and quickly left when it heard people inside.

CCTV footage shows the 5ft-long reptile slowly crawling beside the parked vehicle in Kanchanaburi, Thailand on July 9.

But it stopped and backed away at a much faster pace when a resident made noise in front of the house.

House owner Saowaluk said: ‘It left no its own so we didn't have to call the rescuers to help us.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
