Described in the 19th century by the Englishman Frederick Smith, this species has the particularity of sometimes hunting in groups. When the nest is sufficiently developed, several hornets can leave to hunt together and thus eradicate the population of a nest of another social hymenoptera (bee, wasp or hornets of a smaller species) to use this nest as a a pantry (workers decimated, but also and especially the brood of larvae).
