STORYLINE:

In response to the torrential rainstorms and floods that have wreaked havoc in Beijing and its surrounding regions, authorities are mobilizing an all-out effort to safeguard the people from the impact of disasters.

Zhuozhou City is an area in Hebei that has been severely affected by rain-triggered floods.

At a temporary flood relief center set up in Zhuozhou No. 3 Middle School, flood-affected residents have been receiving essential supplies.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): ZHEN QING, Principal of Zhuozhou No. 3 Middle School
"The shelter took in two batches of flood-affected residents. The first batch consisted of 1,500 to 2,000 people. Then another 3,000 people arrived here. Over the past two days, as the rescue efforts were mostly completed, we have shifted our focus to improving the livelihood and service support for the resettlement communities. For example, for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled, as well as those with underlying health conditions, we've been working to more effectively meet their specific needs and ensure their well-being."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ZHANG YUBAO, Official of health department in Zhuozhou City
"For this resettlement site, we have assigned a medical team consisting of 26 personnel, including two senior physicians who are experts in their field. The team is equipped with essential monitoring and diagnostic equipment, as well as an ample supply of medications. Each day, we conduct two to three rounds of disinfection, focusing on critical areas such as restrooms, canteens, and other places where people gather."

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): WANG JIANHENG, Villager in Xiangsan Village, Zhuozhou City
"At this resettlement site, we have access to water and electricity, and the presence of air conditioning is particularly beneficial as it keeps us cool even during scorching days. And we receive three meals a day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With these provisions, our family of six can rest assured that our basic needs are met."

In Tianjin, tens of thousands of people had been relocated from areas prone to flooding by the Yongding River, which had swollen amid intense rainfall.

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): LIU CHENGJUN, Vice principal of Tianjin Jinghai District No. 6 Middle School
"We organized a group of 70 to 80 young teachers from our school as volunteers. We transported all the supplies to the designated locations and then distributed them to various dormitories, ensuring that all the beds were neatly made. We've prepared altogether 1,500 packages, which are sufficient to accommodate all the people in need of resettlement. All the necessary supplies, including food and essential items, were delivered timely, ensuring that everything was readily available for the people in need."

As floodwaters around Beijing have receded, some villagers at resettlement sites in the city's Fangshan District are returning to their homes.

SOUNDBITE 5 (Chinese): YU SUQING, Villager in Koutou Village, Fangshan District, Beijing
"I've been away from home for a while. The rain has stopped, so I want to go home."

SOUNDBITE 6 (Chinese): WANG YULIAN, Villager in Koutou Village, Fangshan District, Beijing
"It's quite nice here. At the resettlement site, the government has taken comprehensive care of everyone's needs, providing good food and ensuring comfortable accommodations for all of us."
