This is the moment heroic tourists rescued a beachgoer drowning in the sea in Taiwan.

Filipino holidaymaker Jake Magalona and his friends were eating lunch after taking a dip at Anping Beach in Tainan City when they noticed a man flailing in the water on August 3.

The group rushed over to pull the distressed person back to shallow waters.

Footage shows the man sitting on the beach as he recovered his breath after the ordeal. Taiwanese tourists were heard assuring him that an ambulance was on the way.

The grateful tourist turned to hug his rescuers before heading to see the medics that had arrived.

Jake said: 'While we were eating, one of my friends saw a person calling for help in the water. We looked over at the Taiwanese group and saw they were also panicking, so I said we should rescue the drowning man.

'I don't know how what his name is or how he started to drown. I just know the waves were strong at the time.'
