A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck eastern China at 2:33 am on August 6, with its epicentre at a latitude of 37.16 and a longitude of 116.34, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Video filmed in the city of Dezhou in Shandong Province shows goods falling off shelves in a shop and residents running out of the building to escape.

According to the Shandong Province Earthquake Disaster Relief Command, preliminary counts reveal that as of 4:00 pm on the same day, the quake has left 24 people with minor injuries and damaged 213 structures including houses and walls.

In a fortunate turn, over half the injured in Pingyuan County have already been discharged from the hospital. Emergency response teams are partially on standby at the site, while others are gradually leaving the affected area.

Essential services like water, electricity, and communication in the earthquake zone have returned to normal, as the region begins to recover from the natural calamity.
