A woman was rescued when a faulty massage chair sucked up her hair at a railway station in China.

The hapless customer had been hoping to enjoy a relaxing rubdown at the Chongqing Railway Station for a few minutes before boarding her carriage.

She paid 10 Yuan (1 GBP) for five minutes on the machine but was terrified when the machine suddenly swallowed her long black hair on August 3.

Dramatic footage shows the distraught woman in a red dress crying in pain while frantic bystanders rushed to unplug the device.

When the chair was shut off, the lady tried to stand up but howled in anguish as she fell back, her locks still entangled in the mechanism.

Rescuers finally grabbed a pair of scissors and snipped off her hair to free her.

Chongqing West Station Management Committee said the massage chair's protective layer had been tampered with. They claimed that 'only a small clump of hair' was pulled out from the woman, who has received medical treatment.

Staff have temporarily stopped the use of electronic massage chairs in the area following the incident.

A similar incident happened in 2019 when firefighters freed a woman's hair from a massage chair in Zunyi city in Guizhou province. The team used tools to try to tear down the massage chair and take the woman's hair out.

According to reports, the tourist was resting on a massage chair in the waiting room when she was waiting for her train. However, her hair suddenly became trapped in the chair leaving her unable to move.

After around 40 minutes her hair was freed from the chair and she was uninjured.
