A road collapsed following days of torrential monsoon rains and floods in Myanmar.

A 100-ft portion of the Asia Highway - a major trade route between Myanmar and Thailand - subsided as the storm slammed into Karen State on August 7.

Local media reported that a car was caught in the landslide, but the person inside managed to escape. There have been no casualties reported in the collapse so far.

Residents fear that the trade disruption may cause prices to skyrocket as authorities repair the Asia Highway.

Monsoon rains also pummelled other states in Myanmar, killing at least two people in Rakhine State while thousands have been displaced, according to local media.

Myanmar and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
