An overflowing river destroyed a home as heavy rain hammered Laos on Monday.

The stream swelled and eroded the foundation of a house in Houaphanh province, causing the structure to collapse into the water on August 7.

Footage shows the locals standing on the remains of the house while the muddy river churned and swept away the debris below them.

There were no injuries reported in the incident.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Laos in an August 4 advisory warned residents to prepare for flash floods and landslides.

The ministry said moderate to heavy rains were forecasted in the country's northern, central, and southern regions from August 4 to 8, with an expected increase in the water level of local rivers.

Laos and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
