A Thai man accidentally set himself on fire while allegedly trying to burn down his neighbour's house over a noise dispute.

Net Anantakul, 47, was said to be furious when Siriporn Homsaen, 33, complained to the local council over the sounds coming from his yard where he repairs boats.

He allegedly climbed up to his neighbour's second-floor balcony to douse fuel on the home in Sattahip, Chonburi, in the early hours of the morning on August 5.

While igniting the fire, Net unwittingly splashed himself with the flammable liquid. The blaze engulfed him, but despite his injuries, he managed to escape back to his house.

Tormented by severe burns and blisters, Net called the emergency services to take him to a hospital later that day.

Police Colonel Panya Damlek, superintendent of the Sattahip Police Station, said they received Net's report at 10:30 am and dispatched responders to his house, where staff found him lying with burns on his face, arms, and legs.

Rescuers said Net was conscious and responsive, but 'in a state of intoxication'. They administered first aid and took him to the emergency room of the Somdech Phra Nangchaosirikit Hospital.

Net reportedly told police that he and his neighbour Siriporn used to be friendly but they were locked in a dispute over the racket caused by his work as a boat mechanic.

He said he lost his income when Siriporn filed a noise complaint with the local municipal office and he was ordered to stop creating loud noises and air pollution.

Fuelled by rage, he decided to set Siriporn's house on fire but hurt himself while carrying out his plan.

Siriporn said her foreign husband had been alone at their home when the fire broke out. The man called local firefighters, who arrived in time to extinguish the rapidly growing fire.

Chiraya Songsai, a firefighter from the Bang Saray Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division of Bang Saray, said: 'At around 10:10 pm, we received a report that a fire was spreading from the roof to the ground floor of a house.

'It was found that there were oil stains and oil containers at the scene. The homeowner believes someone had come to burn down their house because he saw someone jump to escape the fire.'

Siriporn has filed another report against Net for arson. Police are now investigating the case.
