Keen-eyed residents of New York spotted an unusual sight on Wednesday (August 9) as a Concorde jet travelled down the Hudson River.

The iconic supersonic passenger aircraft was making its way from the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum at Pier 86 to a Brooklyn shipyard for a paint job.

Concorde, a Franco-British collaboration, was retired in 2003 after falling passenger numbers.

Concorde Alpha Delta G-BOAD is being relocated from the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum at Pier 86 to a Brooklyn shipyard for paint repairs.

The supersonic jet was lowered from the Intrepid aircraft carrier to a barge and is being transported at a leisurely 5.7 miles per hour max to a Brooklyn shipyard for a paint touch up.
