Residents in Plainfield New Jersey formed into a protesting crowd after being forced to leave their homes with only 48 hours notice after the building was condemned.

Footage from August 9th shows the crowd of mostly Latin-American residents formed up outside the Plainfield City Hall.

One resident stated in an interview: "They paid the rent two days ago, and yesterday the building is closed. The papers say you have 24 hours to go out."

Carmen Salavarrieta, a resident advocate, commented in an interview: "This, unfortunately, happens mostly to the Latino community because they don’t fight back. They stay quiet because they’re afraid,"

The building was reportedly condemned by the city after hundreds of code violations were discovered in an inspection in June 2022.
