A crazed tourist attacked police with a skateboard at a notorious airport in Thailand.

The holidaymaker wearing a cap, sunglasses and swimming shorts was furious when his flight was delayed multiple times at the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on Thursday, August 10.

Staff at the gate tried to calm him down but he went on a rampage towards the security checkpoints where hand luggage was being scanned.

Police officers based at the airport approached the Chinese tourist but he became even more angry and began swinging a large skateboard at them.

Footage shows the man trying to whack the cops in brown uniforms with his board as terrified onlookers watched the situation unfold.

One policeman defended himself using his baton, while his colleagues surrounded the rampaging passenger attempting to calm him down.

Onlookers said they were 'afraid the man would attack other passengers'.

However, passenger Kitti Siritip, who was at the airport at the time, said: 'The police did a good job. They had the man under control without becoming aggressive towards him.'

Police eventually ushered the man away while they waited for an interpreter from the Chinese Embassy. He was able to board a flight and return to China today, August 11.

Officers from the Don Mueang district station said the man was a Chinese national who became 'anxious' when his scheduled flight was postponed multiple times.

A spokesman said: 'The airline compensated him by providing accommodation at a nearby hotel, but the passenger eventually became restless and anxious.

'The tourist calmed down and the situation was successfully resolved. He was not arrested or fined and he has left the country now.'

The Don Mueang International Airport opened in 1914 and was once the main entry point into Thailand by air but it has fallen into disrepair in recent years. A larger, modern airport now serves the majority of international flights into the country.

In June, a woman's leg had to be amputated at the same airport when she was dragged into the machinery of a poorly maintained travelator.

Passengers have since been raising questions over the airport's safety following the incidents.

State-owned Airports of Thailand (AOT) runs the facility and the company is reportedly 'the most-valuable airport operator in the world' due to the country's popularity as a tourism destination and its rapidly growing domestic economy.
