This village lets bells ring at 12 PM and 6 PM every day. These bells and the loudspeaker diffusing them are used for emergency announcements. The noon and evening chimes are a manner for the local government and citizens to make sure that the emergency systems are working in good order. Japan has been prey to several natural disasters in history, and the village of Fujiyoshida itself is located on the flanks of Mount Fuji, which is an active stratovolcano.
