Footage of smog in Beijing, China after the city issued its first ever Red Alert as pollution reaches hazardous levels.

Some businesses and schools have reportedly been shut and some building work and industry will be restricted to reduce the deadly pollution in the air.

Smog levels have reduced slightly in the last few weeks but the Chinese capital is expecting more pollution over the next couple of days, meaning they've taken action to make sure the air remains safe to breathe.

The Red Alert will reportedly remain in place until Thursday, when the weather will change and blow the pollution away from the city.
