A bear was captured after it roamed about in the residential area of Rekurthy in Karimnagar district of southern India's Telangana.

The incident took place on August 12.

Visuals showed the wild animal roaming about in the residential area. People watched it from far away as the bear wandered about. Later, a huge crowd followed as the animal was being taken away in a cloth tied to bamboo sticks after it was tranquilised and captured. According to a report, the bear was seen in Sripuram on Friday night and locals were left shaken by the sighting of the wild animal. Later, it moved to Rekurthy where locals spotted it and informed the forest department. A rescue team from the Warangal Forest department arrived at the spot and got to work.

The bear hid in the hillocks of the old gram panchayat office in Rekurthy and the rescue officials spotted it before shooting it with a tranquiliser gun. The rescue operation took hours to complete and the bear was taken away from the area in a rescue van. According to the forest officials, the wild animal was shifted to the Warangal Zoological Park.
