More than 100 million tonnes of cargo had been shipped through the Changzhou ship lock of the Xijiang River in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region this year as of Thursday, data from Guangxi Xijiang Development and Investment Group Co., Ltd. showed.

"At 6:17 a.m. on Aug. 10, the 'Guigang Yuhang 8005' ship loaded with steel passed through Changzhou No. 4 ship lock, marking that the cargo volume of Changzhou ship lock has exceeded 100 million tonnes this year, an increase of 2.5 percent year on year. It is five days ahead of last year to exceed 100 million tonnes."

The Xijiang River, a tributary of the Pearl River, is a major waterway in southwest China, which connects the eastern and western regions of China.

In 2022, the annual cargo volume of Changzhou ship lock reached 155.3 million tonnes, an increase of 1.97 percent year on year, hitting a record high. 

Since 2020, the annual cargo volume has exceeded 150 million tonnes for three consecutive years.
