This is the moment lifeboat crew rescued a windsurfer stranded off the coast of Northumberland during strong winds.

RNLI Blyth staff were out on exercise when they were called to aid the distressed surfer near the Port of Blyth on July 30.

The crew rushed over on their inshore lifeboat and found the individual unharmed but unable to return to shore due to strong winds.

The surfer and their equipment were safely brought back to the beach at Blyth.

Volunteer Olivia Marshall, a new crew member, said: 'It's been an experience that I won't forget attending my first shout. This is why I joined the RNLI and I'm glad that I could use what I've learnt so far in my training to assist with the casualty.'

RNLI Blyth helm Steven Fitch said: 'The wind had picked up and made conditions more challenging for those out on the water. We are glad that we were able to assist the casualty and that they were safe and well. Congratulations to Liv on her first shout.'
