A woman saved her son who got trapped in an elevator as out-of-control doors suddenly closed in southern China.

Terrifying CCTV footage filmed in Nanning City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on August 5 shows the doors suddenly closing when a boy and a girl walking into an elevator.

The girl escaped but the boy was stuck in between the doors.

The children's mother named Cheng who entered the elevator earlier spotted the incident and used her left hand and leg to keep the doors from closing further.

Cheng also pressed the open button and other floor buttons with her right hand while instructing her daughter to hit the alarm button inside the elevator. However, no one answered the emergency call, and the doors continued to close.

Cheng described the ordeal, saying: 'The door was getting tighter, squeezing closer to us, and it was still crushing hard.'

Despite Cheng's leg turning blue and purple from the pressure, She did not dare let go, holding the position for a gruelling 30 seconds.

Luckily, the elevator doors suddenly opened, allowing the family to flee. The child's scalp was found to be reddened but not broken.

The incident has raised concerns as another resident revealed that this particular elevator has malfunctioned frequently since they moved in last year.

Following the incident, the property management company stated that they would call the maintenance company to repair the elevator. Mr Lyu from the maintenance company responded, insisting that there was no problem with the quality of the elevator and blaming the mishap on signal interference.

He promised to address the issue promptly and said the maintenance company would consult with the property management company about covering medical expenses for Cheng and her child.
