A tragic incident unfolded as a four-year-old K9 was shot and killed during a confrontation with an armed suspect.

The beloved Belgian Malinois, named Sir, who was an esteemed member of the San Diego Police Department, was fatally struck during the shootout in Clairemont Mesa in San Diego, California on 2nd August.

Disturbing footage captured the moment when Sir, released by his handler, rushes towards the suspect.

Benjamin Pickens, 33, responded by brandishing his gun, prompting Officer Addam Ansari to fire his service rifle, wounding the suspect.
Tragically, a second gunshot followed, accompanied by Sir's anguished cries as he collapsed.

Despite immediate efforts by his handler and veterinarians, Sir could not be saved.
