This is the dramatic moment an electricity meter exploded during a storm in Thailand.

Footage shows the device erupting in a blast of sparks outside a house in Bangkok amid heavy rainfall on July 22. The meter caught fire and emitted smoke, but the flames did not spread to other parts of the home.

Neighbours helped to put out the flames before staff from the state-owned electricity board arrived to repair the damage.

Resident Pacharaporn Eiamsamang said: 'Luckily, there was no one in front of the house that day. There were flammable objects nearby, but the fire did not spread. We were very fortunate. No one was hurt, but our dog inside the house was so frightened.'
