This is the moment a fish pen was destroyed by the rising Mekong River following heavy rain in northeast Thailand.

Footage shows the walls of the enclosure used to keep fish crumpling as they were pushed by the swollen stream in Nong Khai province on the river's banks on August 10.

The pen owner said the water level rose rapidly, leaving little time for her to prepare.

Authorities in the region had earlier issued a warning to monitor the river's water level amid heavy rain in Thailand's north and northeast regions due to a low-pressure cell affecting northern Vietnam and southern China.

Thai officials were seeking help from the inter-governmental Mekong River Commission for China and Laos to properly manage water discharge from their dams, local media reported.
