Two Palestinians killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers in West Bank
Two Palestinians, including a teenager, were killed on Tuesday (August 15) during clashes with Israeli soldiers in Aqabat Jabar refugee camp, close to the West Bank city of Jericho.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that Qusai Al-Walaji, 16, and Mohammad Najoum, 25, died after Israeli soldiers shot them during clashes in the refugee camp.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that two other Palestinians were injured during the clashes and were sent to a local hospital.
Eyewitnesses said Mohammad Abu El-Assal, a Palestinian wanted by Israeli security forces for his involvement in shooting attacks against Israel, was arrested after midnight.
Clashes broke out between dozens of Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, who opened fire to disperse the stone throwers, according to the eyewitnesses.
The Israeli military said in a statement that its forces opened fire in response to a firebomb attack, adding that the Israeli troops entered the area where the clashes took place to apprehend two "wanted suspects."
Israel Radio also reported that two Palestinians were killed when Israeli army forces entered the refugee camp to arrest the wanted Palestinians.
Since January, 27 people, most of them Israelis, have been killed in a series of attacks by Palestinians, and more than 200 Palestinians, including children and women, were killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers, according to official figures.
