The ship belonging to the Governor of Kaltara, Zainal Arifin Paliwang, had an accident on the Semamu River, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan. The swift currents of the river and the condition of the high tide after the rain, are suspected to be the cause of the accident that killed one ASN. The ship accident that was experienced by the Governor of North Kalimantan, Zainal Arifin Paliwang, occurred when the group was on an expedition for the 78th Indonesian Independence Day to the RI-Malaysia border, carried out by land route with the final destination to the Krayan area, in Nunukan Regency. The accident started when the governor of Kaltara's group arrived at Semamu Village, using a motorbike, at around 11.30 WITA, last Tuesday (15/8/2023). The group had to stop, because they had to cross the fast-flowing Semamu river. Then, a number of motorbikes were put on ketinting boats belonging to the local community, so they could cross the fast-flowing Semamu river. At that time, the victim, Yusi Novianto, who was Head of the Coastal and Standard Water Office of the PUPR-PERKIM Kaltara Service, joined the ketinting boat with his motorcycle. Due to the condition that the water level in the river was rising and the current was quite fast, the ketinting boat was rocking, so that the victim fell and was immediately carried away by the river current.
